　　What are sealants?

　　A sealant is a protective plastic coating that is bonded to the chewing surface on the back permanent teeth of children. This coating fills in the small grooves on the tops of the teeth and prevents bacteria from causing decay. 　　什么是窝沟封闭？

　　窝沟封闭是涂在儿童恒牙咬合面上的一层树脂保护膜。封闭剂能填充在牙齿上的窝沟，阻止细菌侵入，从而形成一层保护性屏障。

　　Why seal a child’s teeth?

　　Most of the cavities found in children are located on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. This is because the back teeth have tiny grooves that are smaller than bristles of a toothbrush; this allows food and bacteria to get trapped in the groove with no way to clean it out.

　　为什么儿童要做窝沟封闭？

　　大多数的蛀牙都是在后牙的咬合面上，因为后牙上有比牙刷还要小的小窝和沟裂，所以食物和细菌藏在里面而没有办法清洗干净。

　　Which teeth should be sealed?

　　Most dentists recommend the permanent molars and premolars to be sealed because these are the teeth that have the deepest grooves. Baby teeth often don’t need to be sealed, but if your dentist thinks your child is at a high risk for decay he may recommend sealing the baby molars.

　　哪些牙齿需要做窝沟封闭？

　　大多数牙医建议封闭恒牙的磨牙和双尖牙，因为磨牙的窝沟比较深，乳牙通常不用做窝沟封闭。有的儿童易患蛀牙，牙医就会建议封闭乳牙的磨牙。
